What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapists work with the disabled, the elderly, newborns, school-aged children, or anyone who has a permanent or temporary impairment in their physical or mental functioning. Occupational therapy also focuses on the recovery of the shoulder, elbow, and hand. The purpose is to help patients perform daily tasks in their living and working environments. This includes skilled treatment that helps people return to ordinary tasks around home and at work by maximizing physical potential through lifestyle adaptations and possible use of assistive devices.

What makes Advanced Manual Therapy different?

At Advanced Manual Therapy Institute we take a hand’s on approach to occupational therapy. A first visit includes a thorough evaluation from one of our occupational therapists, which includes a treatment plan and home exercises/stretches. Some of the techniques used during your treatment might include hydrotherapy (hot/cold packs), hands-on soft tissue, advanced mobilization techniques, PNF assisted exercises, ultrasound, and more. We keep our ratio’s small so all patients get the attention and treatment worth their time and well-being.
Services typically include
• Customized treatment programs to improve one's ability to perform daily activities
• Performance skills assessments and treatment
• Adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training
• Guidance to family members and caregivers
Some of the health conditions that benefit from occupational therapy include
• Work-related injuries including lower back problems or repetitive stress injuries
• Arthritis, multiple sclerosis, or other serious chronic conditions
• Birth injuries, learning problems, or developmental disabilities
• Burns, spinal cord injuries, or amputations
• Broken bones or other injuries from falls, sports injuries, or accidents
