What is Ergonomics?
The term “ergonomics” is derived from two Greek words:
“ergon”, meaning work and “nomoi”, meaning
natural laws. Ergonomic specialists study human capabilities in
relationship to work demands. Ergonomics looks at the type of work
you do, what tools you use and your whole job environment. The aim
is to find the best fit between you and your job conditions.
The goal of our ergonomics assessment specialist is to modify work
environment/space to minimize musculoskeletal dysfunctions as well
as overuse syndromes within the body. Our specialist evaluates biomechanical
movements used to complete a work task and provides recommendations/setup
modifications to minimize risk to the individual. Modifications
for any client are completely individualized based on the specific
needs of a given person and professional task.
The goal of having an ergonomic assessment of your work environment
is prevent injuries ranging from the head to the toe. Examples of
injuries ergonomics can prevent include:
• Adjusting the position of your computer keyboard to prevent
carpal tunnel syndrome
• Being sure that the height of your desk chair allows your
feet to rest flat on floor
• Learning the right way to lift heavy objects to prevent
injuries to the back
